Maneki Neko interactive installation

Medium: Maneki Nekos, servos, arduino, kinect, PC, WiFi router, USB Hub

The modern maneki-neko is a Japanese beckoning cat, spotted in the wild amongst many Asian shops and restaurants. Their natural habitat is often near the cash register or within the vicinity of the front entrance, partnering themselves securely amongst decorative plants.

But this time instead of sitting still it was hacked to become an interactive installation build for the Design Trust HK Pop-Up exhibition.

Each cat is fitted with a servo and a WIFI enabled microcontroller. Visitors can control the cats by moving their arms in front of a Kinect camera.
